A light box or lightbox, is a JavaScript modal window (or dialog box) used to display images and other web content in the middle of the screen. The lightbox effect is achieved by obscuring the background (the web page itself,) and forcing the user to focus on the single, usually white modal window. Lightbox was originally the name of a specific JavaScript website plugin however, the term has evolved to encompass any lightbox-style JavaScript website plugins and effects in general.

This is an issue using PrettyPhoto on a WordPress blog for IE7/IE8

JQuery LogoI am using a JavaScript lightbox named PrettyPhoto which utilizes the JQuery framework. The lightbox works fine in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome but lately we noted it wasn’t working consistently in IE8 or IE7. The JavaScript console on IE’s developer tools give the following error:

How to Install prettyPhoto JavaScript Lightbox on a WordPress Theme

WordPress DevelopmentThis tutorial emerged organically after writing the tutorial for Installing prettyPhoto JavaScript Lightbox.

My original intention was to document the steps I had taken in using the script in a regular good ‘ol fashioned site, (meaning non CMS or Blog script). In the process of writing said tutorial I had to show a working sample on this blog. Since this is a WordPress, Pretty Photo had to be made to work with the existing theme. So I did the install and re-wrote the tutorial to address what I did to make it work on this WP blog.
